The original Shield article introduced Sony’s STARVIS sensor technology. This revision retains that topic while removing broad comparisons that should not be treated as current performance guarantees for every Shield camera. [1]
Separate the sensor from the system
A sensor is one part of a camera. Lens selection, illumination, exposure settings, processing and recording configuration also affect the result. Confirm the sensor and specifications for the exact model rather than assuming a family name applies to the entire catalog.
Ask for useful recorded detail
Evaluate the task you need to perform in the actual nighttime conditions. Include a moving subject and review the saved footage. A bright still scene alone does not demonstrate that motion will retain the required detail.
Treat the original claims as historical
The 2017 article included numerical sensitivity and comparison statements. They are preserved in the original archive, but are not repeated here as current model specifications. Request the current datasheet and a demonstration appropriate to the installation.
